On November 12th and 13th, the hub visited Cubitt Town Junior School, who have developed an oracy curriculum over the past 18 months, and where oracy teaching and learning is now embedded across the school. We observed lessons in a range of subjects and saw how oracy is being used as a vehicle for learning in maths, topic and reading lessons. We also took part in a dialogic assembly, in which the children sit in a circle and the teacher facilitates a discussion around a stimulus. The 45 minute session highlighted a novel approach to assemblies, with clear outcomes and expectations for talk. It was inspiring to see a school that is a year further along their oracy journey and the impact that it is having.
