Extending Vocabulary through Reading: Year 1 and 2

You could send your KS1 phase team to this twilight as part of your school’s CPD

The training will address the following:

  • Considerations about why we teach vocabulary
  • The importance of teaching word meaning in context, based on the research findings
  • Strategies to teach how to work out and clarify the meanings of unknown words and words with more than one meaning
  • Strategies to teach and extend pupils’ vocabulary          

The benefits of attending this training are:

  • Confidence to enhance pupils’ vocabulary
  • Deepening pupils’ ability to put their thoughts into the most appropriate words
  • Improving speaking and listening, reading and writing skills

This course is suitable for:

  • Teachers and support staff working in Key Stage 1
  • English leads and/or phase leaders
  • Newly and recently qualified teachers
