The training will address the following:

  • Considerations about why we teach vocabulary
  • The importance of teaching word meaning in context, based on the research findings
  • How to understand nuances in meaning and develop an understanding of figurative language
  • Strategies to teach how to work out and clarify the meanings of unknown words and words with more than one meaning
  • Strategies to teach and extend pupils’ vocabulary

  • Deepening pupils’ ability to put their thoughts into the most appropriate words
  • Improving speaking and listening, reading and writing skills

This course is suitable for:

  • Teachers and support staff working in Lower Key Stage 2
