Phonics: Phase 1 - Engaging with High-Quality Picture Books

FRESH IDEAS and NEW TEACHING SEQUENCES will be shared during this training

The training will address the following:

  • Exploring and experimenting with sounds and words
  • Distinguishing between sounds in the environment and phonemes (letter sounds)
  • Understanding the importance of rhythm, rhyme and alliteration
  • Teaching and learning though high-quality picture books
  • Opportunities to experience and explore resources

The benefits of attending this training are:

  • Strategies to promote: listening attentively, enlarging children’s vocabulary; discriminating phonemes; and using ‘sound-talk’ to segment phonemes
  • Provides a foundation for children to successfully move into a systematic phonics programme

This course is suitable for:

  • All adults working in a nursery setting and all adults working in an EYFS setting
  • Newly and recently qualified teachers
